Kartell is famous throughout the world for having invented the culture of furniture and furniture for plastic interiors. Kartell was founded in 1949 by Giulio Castelli, a chemical engineer moved by an inspiration: to create objects from plastic, a material of applications little explored until that moment. He then began a fruitful collaboration with the great designer Gino Colombini, winner of the company's first Compasso d'Oro prize in 1955. From the beginning Kartell's goal was to "brighten up the domestic landscape", becoming one of the main promoters of the plastic in the world of decoration and interior design, although in its beginnings they are more related to the manufacture of automobile accessories in 1949.
